Alabama Weather Update

Here is the location of the storms at present...

Northwest Alabama...strong to severe storm in Lawrence County...moving south toward northern Winston County. Another storm over southern Colbert County is moving toward Franklin County even as it backbuilds to the northwest.

Severe thunderstorm warning for Lawrence County until 715 pm.

East Alabama...storm north of Anniston...stronger storm in Randolph County near Wedowee...developing storm near Dadeville in Tallapoosa County.

The big storms over West Alabama are now in Southwest Alabama. Huge storm still over Choctaw and Marengo Counties. Pouring rain all around Butler, Alabama.

A Chilton County Drenching

Chilton County, famous for great peaches, is as close to the geographical center of Alabama as you can get.

This afternoon, the 3340 SkyWatcher for Jemison, on U.S. 31 in the northern part of the county, reported 1.11 inches of rain for a two-day total of 1.20.

The rain came down quickly. At one point, it was raining at the rate of 4.30 inches per hour.


Big Storms Move on South--6 o'clock Report

It is pouring with fast-popping severe lightning in these areas of West and Southwest Alabama:

+ South half of Sumter County, including Livingston

+ South Hale County mainly south of Greensboro

+ Extreme South Greene County

+ North Marengo County around Demopolis

Other storms...not quite as strong were along the Chilton-Autauga County in the center of Alabama.

Anothwer group of scattered storms over NW Alabama. So far those have not formed lines.

Everything moving due south.

We will post some rainfall amounts later.


Thunderstorm Progress--5:15 pm Report

Line of strong thunderstorms moving almost due south through West and Central Alabama.

Main part of the line from Livingston and Eutaw on the west side of the state, eastward to between Moundville and Greensboro in Hale County...across east Bibb County and over the north half of Chilton County.

Well to the south of that, strong storms also between Grove Hill and Monroeville.

New scattered thunderstorms over NW Alabama. Those have not formed into a line.

Flash Flood Warning continues for Tuscaloosa County until 6:30.

Flooding has been reported on Greensboro Avenue in Tuscaloosa.


Flash Flood Warning Tuscaloosa County

A flash flood warning has been issued for Tuscaloosa County...it goes until 630 p.m.

Dppler Radar indicates that as much as 3 inches of rain may have fallen in the past hours across a wide area of Tuscaloosa County, mainly just east of US-43.

Torrential rains continue in the Tuscaloosa/Northport areas.

A flash flood warning means flooding is imminent or may already be occurring.

A late report...a road near Samantha is under water and impassable...

Do not drive or walk into flowing water. Remember...turn around...don't drown...

Be alert to rising water if you live in a flood prone area.


Alabama Weather Update

Strong storms continue over Central Alabama this afternoon...

From west to east...

Pickens County...storms have weakened a bit...they are moving south into Sumter County...strongest cell near and south of Cochrane.

Tuscaloosa County...strongest storms are here...they are now blowing through the city of Tuscaloosa.. with torrential rains, gusty winds and deadly lightning. Storms over SE Tuscaloosa County are weakening as they move into Bibb...

Storms have picked up in southern Shelby County in the Montevallo and Wilton areas...

Storms in southern St. Clair County south of Moody are weakening a bit...

Watch out for lightning and heavy rains. Some of the stronger storms have shown radar indications of hail...Strong winds are also possible from collapsing storms... the ones over Tuscaloosa County would be good candidates to produce microbursts...




Warnings

Severe thunderstorm warning Fayette and northern Tuscaloosa til 4 p.m.
NEW severe thunderstorm warning for southeastern Tuscaloosa and northern Bibb til 4:15 p.m.

Large hail indicated near Lake View in extreme NE Tuscaloosa County...moving south toward North Bibb and Woodstock.

Quite a mess over Tuscaloosa County with lots of strong thunderstorms in progress.

Moderate rain and storms over southern Jefferson County from McCalla over to 280.

An arc of storms still slowly edging into NE Jefferson County. Worst part will push toward Moody. Some hail indicated with this storm.



Weather Check

For the third time in less than 24 hours, I am back on the desk to get a front row seat for thunderstorms here in Trussville.

Our severe thunderstorm over northwestern Jefferson County collpased bout 30 minutes ago...sending an outflow boundary outward...this has sparked storms near Tarrant and over southern Jefferson County.

Storms are moving in on NE Jefferson County from the northeast. Thunder is rumbling at my location from the east and northeast.

Big storms over NE Tuscaloosa County and NW Tuscaloosa County seem to be on a collison course. The city of Tuscaloos could catch it.

Storms over Fayette County have rapidly intensified, heading toward Berry.

SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING JUST ISSUED TUSCALOOSA AND FAYETTE COUNTIES...TIL 4 PM

Pickens County storm is still strong...centered near Carrollton.

Storm over Perry County is weakening.

Watch for signs of approaching storms. WHen you hear thunder within 30 seconds of seeing the flash, you are too close...head inside...and stay there until the storm psses. Watch out for wind gusts to 40 mph or higher that can bring down tree limbs. Winds gusted to 40 mph at BC3340 Skycam site on the Daniel Building in downtown Birmingham earlier.


Alabama Weather Update

Severe thunderstorm warning for Jefferson County until 3:15...
Severe thunderstorm warning for Pickens County until 3:15...

The storm over Jefferson County is collapsing. It is producing an outflow bloundary that is moving south. The Hale County storm is producing an outflow boundary that is move NE. The two will collide over outhwestern Jefferson County. Look for some rapid storm development there, perhaps south of McCalla.

Pickens strom still strong...

Scattered storms Winston/Walker...Cullman/Blount/St. Clair. All moving generally south.

RAIN AMOUNTS - NE JEFFERSON COUNTY
0.94 inches this morning for me in Trussville. J.B. measured 0.84. More is on the way.
