New Recon Data

Pressure still very, very low... at 908 mb. Flight level winds are down to 122 knots, or 140 mph. NHC will probably lower wind speed in the next advisory... probably dropping Katrina to category four level. This is still a very, very dangerous storm.

You know I was reading the 1100 EDT discussion on NHC. They are not totally convinced from the NOAA Hunters and NHC Hunters. Their reports are conflicting and the eyewall replacement is not good news, according to NHC, it will only expand the wind field. So CAT 5 or CAT 4, apples, oranges.....

Even if the projected windspeed is down to 140mph, that 908mb is really really low. Let's not forget that Andrew was 922mb and landfall.

Just looked at the IR loop and it seemed to have thrown itself outward, but now it looks tighter. Looking at the loop it doesn't look weaker now.

That's true...It's all about pressure....And let's not forget, 140 KT winds, that's not winds that last for a few minutes like a Tornado then it's gone, they last for hours. If you put anything in a wind like that for an extended period of time, bad things are going to happen...So let's focus on that, not just the wind speed but the duration.

Who's in favor of dropping Greg in the path of this thing so he can give us a live report of just how weak this storm is when it strikes?
