Mississippi Coast - Before Katrina

Scott McClellan sent in these images he captured along the Mississippi coast in May of this year.

The pictures will show a little of what more than likely, and sadly to say, isnt there anymore.  They are of the front of the Beau Rivage, shot from Highway 90, the Bell Tower in front of the Hurricane Camille monument, and one of the monument itself.

These pictures are beautiful. Reminds me of the Gulf Shores before and after pictures from last year. I do have one question regarding the problems with loss of life in Biloxi and Gulfport. Were there mandatory evacuation orders issued that people ignored or did MS somehow drop the ball? I know in New Orleans, people ignored the orders and the mandatory portion came too late. I'm only curious because as these areas continue to be so populated, I'm afraid this will continue to be an issue.

Yes, that is an issue Angie. These pictures don't tell half the story of that area. It's a lovely place. Breaks my heart to know that these pictures are pretty much all that's left. One small restaurant that we ate at, that overlooked the Gulf, is gone also. The White Cap was a great place. Hopefully they'll rebuild and start serving that great boiled shrimp again.

btw..... i have tried calling my sister in MS all day long. but none of the numbers i have tried seem to be working. she lives in Carthage (just outside of Meridian). I know they are ok, because i talked to my Brother in law last night. the circuits are all busy, plus i imagine quite a few cingular towers are down. my brother in law tells me that a woman was killed when a tree fell on her car on mars hill road in carthage. he says it was storming SO BAD - that they couldnt get her body out, all they could do was cover her car with a tarp until the winds calmed down. my heart goes out to all in Mississippi.

I just got through watching the six o clock news on 33/40 and the ABC national news and have a lump in my throat. To the people in New Orleans and MS and to families who have relatives there, May God be with you and protect you and give you strength and peace. My words alone cannot express my heart felt sadness for you. I pray that God will see you through this and pray that God will bring healing to these disastorous ereas. Jer 29:11. For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, Plans to prosper you and give you peace.
