More Tornado Pictures

More pictures from Tuscaloosa from Linda Mason below:

I live on Cornelius Church Road and was trying to return home from my daughter's bridal shower when my husband called on my cell phone and said the tornado was over our house and then touched down about a mile north.  He could see the debris already in the clouds overhead.  He kept telling me to stay in Northport and don't come home!  I was listening to you on 98.1 when you said that another one has touched down on Cornelius Church Road and I almost had a heart attack!  At that time, I was trying to call Ronnie (my husband) and the phone just kept ringing.  Thanks for all the good work that you and your station does in times like this.

Thanks for posting these pictures! I just gave my daughter a quick safety lesson about what to do if she ever sees a cloud like this. It was great to be able to teach her this when the storms are past and she feels safe.

James & team, thanks for all you do to keep us safe!

Linda

Nice shots of the funnel, there! A co-worker and I were talking about the tornadoes that have been caught on tower cams in the past. I mainly recall the twister in November of 2001 (I believe) that James Spann also presented live. How many tower cams are available in the Central Alabama and broadcasting areas? It would be nice for the station to show live shots of the weather when we have severe storms, not only to give the public a look at what to expect, along with radar tracks, but it might even limit or slow down the weather optimists out there that feel obliged to "chase" or observe the storms. That should be left for the professionals, anyway.
Also, since we tend to have a great deal of evening or early morning storms here in Alabama, it might benefit to have some form of night vision camera? I know the lightning strikes would probably fry a military issue lens (or at least, I recall something about intense light effecting the lens, when I went through night vision training in the Air Force).
This would probably be a high-cost project, to have cameras linked to towers across the state, but I just wanted to ask to see if anything is under-way for such a task. Thanks for all that the team does to keep us safe, every year. I look forward to the storm training in October!
Watching,
Stephen Pridmore

Good Idea. But even if it's a high cost for the television stations, I believe the ALDOT or NWS should do something like that and put Cameras in key areas. Not only where the Station towers are, but also where Radars are located. At least One in each county in Alabama, depending on how large the country is.

Thank you James and Crew for everything you did. Forget about any nasty emails you have or may get about programming they will get over it.

Great shots and I know how excited I was that you all caught the tornado on video and wished you had more cams up to catch more. Oh and while yall are working on that can you figure out a way to get light so when darkness falls we can still see them. lol just kidding.

Anyway great job to everyone, you are living my dream job.

Kim
