Tricky Forecast

The cloud forecast over the next few days will be a little tricky thanks to small ripples in the northwest flow across Alabama. Guess we will need to use the "variable cloud" wording through Friday. The air near the surface remains very dry and there will be no precipitation. Temperatures will rise into the 50s tomorrow, and we might even touch 60 on Friday.

The vigorous clipper will arrive over the weekend. We have showers in the forecast for Saturday, and J.B. has introduced the possibility of a few thunderstorms as well simply based on the strength of the system. Even with limited moisture.

We will maintain the chance of snow flurries, or snow showers after midnight Saturday night into Sunday morning. I still think there is a chance the ground will be white (a dusting) on the ridges of northeast Alabama Sunday morning, mainly above 1,000 feet, in Jackson, DeKalb, and Cherokee counties.

Odds are that any flurries or snow showers down here won't pose any problems, but this is a very dynamic system, and those kind of systems have offered surprises before. December 14, 1997 comes to mind... when Demopolis had 8 inches of snow on the ground from a moisture starved cold core upper air system.

Sunday will be blustery and cold with 30s all day and low wind chill values. Upper teens are likely by Monday morning....
