A Bit of Light Rain

An approaching cold front has created some cloud cover over North and Central Alabama.

Radar also shows a band of rain moveing across the area. Most of this rain is evaporating before reaching the ground.

However, a little light rain has been reported at the surface in Cullman, Tuscaloosa, Columbus, Miss., and we have had a few sprinkles in Northeast Trussville.

A very cold rain is falling here in Tuscaloosa. Any colder I'm sure it would be sleet.

Surprised to see the report of heavy rain in South Tuscaloosa. The total all morning at Tuscaloosa Airport was only 0.01. At 10 am, the temperatrure was up to 39 at the airport with no rain reported at that time.

Well it's is rain here in Pelham temperature is 40.0, so it looks like the GFS missed the forecast today.

J.B. has there been any reports of any small ice pellets...Could that not have been possible with the moisture falling... I figure with the Evaporational cooling and the dew points being so low, that there could have been some ice pellets falling.. The radar signature sure was showing sleet in the lower levels of the atmosphere.. Am I way off base here??Do I need to go back to Met 101??

Rusty...
Not out of the question but I have not heard of any IP. Evaporative cooling is pretty good but there is also a rather quick warmup in the lower several thousand feet above BHM

As I was on my way to class... I felt little ice pellets falling, melting on my face and coat. The temperature is 48 according to the weather channel at the airport here in carrollton Georgia. Certainly that wasnt Sleet I felt.
