Why are so many people on the roads when this wintry precipitation has been forecast?

People need to learn just to STAY HOME...

Mikey... I am sure that the same reason we would have all the people on the roads here...Buisnesses would shut down.... J.B. has a story about the Ice storm back in the 80's that Crippled Bham... They didnt make the forcast, and when it started to hit..It was too late...Most buisnessed wouldnt shut down till it would be too late..Thus ...Lots of People trying to get home.....

That was a nightmare. Ice is just so crippling. Trees and powerlines don't much care for it. Neither do I. Glad I don't live in TX. Oh my! That chili sure is smelling nice. Of course the kids are being EXTRA loud!!! Glad I bought that Exederin migraine today.

Oh, yeah. 4 boys ages 9 to 17. The 9 year old thinks is the mack-daddy of wrestling. The other 3 always prove him wrong. Wrestling by the light of the CHRISTMAS Tree at Dave's house.

Because of the clouds... the temperature isn't gping to drop much more... and will probably remain within a degree of where it is now(perhaps even rise) towards morning. The rain probably won't even be there til daybreak as it's looking right now.

Bottom line... at best a sleet pellet or two mixed in. This is not even a minor issue.

just heard from my cousin via email in texas - she lives in the DFW area and says that "so far it hasn't been too bad, but I haven't had to be out in it either." apparently her power is still on - fortunately!!!! :-)

hello gang. i am a regular of the blog and just want to say hello from Salt Lake city. The low here tonight will be 3 with a sizzling high today of 19. Got down to 6 here last night with falling temps through the day. Between 5 and 7 last night, had a total of 5 inches of snow. We went downtown to eat and it took 90 min of a normal 20 min drive. I will tell you folks, they do not drive any different here in Salt Lake than they do in Birmingham, but I will tell you that there was no mad dash to the grocery to fight over bread and milk. Take care all and will be back in town Friday to Birmingham. Stephanie, you must have been doing the snow dance because I have never seen snow fall like it did here yesterday afternoon. God Bless

It was 37 at my house about an hour ago with a mostly clear sky. I don't think that lasted to long though.

Hello Gang,
Yes, I remember that storm. I am pretty sure it was 1982. It was the year of my first teaching job in Ensley. The principal was releasing the students and told me that I could leave. I was surprised and assured him that I would help see that the students made it home first because I only had a short 20 minute drive home. I was really happy he insisted that I leave. That 20 minute drive home was a nightmare as I tried to cross bridges. My Yankee brother-in-law had given instructions about driving in the snow. He said drive slow and pretend you have no brakes. Braking would cause you to slide. That was very helpful as long as nobody else was stopped. I was so proud when I finally made it to close to home. I was about a half mile from home with a downhill curve in front of me. I decided to park the car in a friends yard and walk home instead of risking an accident. My father was not happy to hear that I left the car. I really expected him to be excited because I did not wreck his car. My Mother was driving home from Jasper and had a 2 mile walk. A friendly man with a jeep drove her most of the way home. We were both thankful to be home when we heard of all the people stranded on the freeway. We lived to tell the tale.
