Mississippi Coastal Suffering Continues

Thought I would pass along this note and pictures from Scott McClellan, an Alabamian who has been working as a disaster relief volunteer on the Mississippi coast:

Here are some of the photos I have taken in the past week here in the Waveland/Bay St. Louis MS area.  These folks are still suffering.  Keep in mind, these pics are only ONE day old.  This entire area still looks like this.  If possible, could these be posted on the blog, for the readers to see that not much is happening here.  We need the help.  God bless you all James.  Take care.

And to think, some folks will whine because they didnt get what they wanted for Christmas. I'm sure these victims would trade every Christmas gift they give to be able to have back what they lost. May we ALL remember how lucky (read that as BLESSED) we are to have what we do have.

I am from Waveland and you are right - I would give anything to have my pictures and memorabilia back - they can never be replaced!

Thank you for sharing this - with the holidays descending upon us it is so easy to forget how great the need of these victims still is. I hope that people keep in mind that the true meaning of this season is not in how much we get, but in how much we give. God Bless to all of you! :)

Special prayers go out. Please GOD encamp your Angels about them, hold them strong, let your deciples get to them. Lift their heads and hearts up O Lord & let them know they will get well. GOD richly bless those along that coast.

Many of the poorer people who didn't have insurance are still living in tents. They have the debris from their former homes bulldozed up in piles, with the tents set up on their lot. It was 31° in Gulfport yesterday morning.

This is what my husband saw 2 week before Thanksgiving as he went down to Pass Christian, I've heard the same things from folks that helped in Waveland and Bay St. Louis.

Anybody that has even a couple of days to spare, their help would be greatly appreciated. There are church groups all over B'ham area going down pretty much round the clock..join one. I plan on trying to go down in Feb.

Clean up and restoration on this area will be at least a 5 year deal..let's not forget them. Bless all that go help, Lord please be with those in need!

Amen, John T., Amen. May God bless all whose lives have been torn apart by Katrina, and may we all remember the true reason for the season--born in a manger 2,000 years ago.

It's unbelievable that this much destruction is still visible and it breaks my heart to see an area I love so much so devastated.

I plan on coming down to volunteer between Christmas and New Year to do what little I can and I hope that help continues to flow into the area. We must not forget the courageous people living on the coast. God Bless them all!

I am also an Alabamian ( Leeds ) working disaster relief in Pass Christian MS. The conditions these people are enduring, are horrible. There are still people living in tents waiting for FEMA trailers. My heart goes out to these people. I wish I could do more. The amount of red tape not to mention the waste of money spent on trailers is staggering.

I used to live in Bay St.Louis and wish to return when it is rebuilt. I can not handle the destruction of my home town. I was there when Katrina hit and I lost everything . When I returned to my home to see the damage it was bad but not as bad as when I went to where the Bay Bridge was then I did not know how deal with the loss we all went through. I did not know how to deal with helping my children deal with not having a home, school or even friends. But I did, I had to for them. I have moved to South Carolina for the time being.
