Frost Everywhere---Updated 8 am, CST

Yep, it is another cold morning across Alabama as the month of December continues to average more than five degrees colder than normal.

Some of the coldest so far this year.

You can be sure that will show up on your heating bill.

A ray of hope, some moderating temperatures into the 50s until it turns colder again Christmas day.

+++At Black Creek, in NE Etoway County, Vic Bell reports 14 which is the coldest since last January 24.

++Low of 17 in Hueytown and Rainbow City. Other lows:

18 in Anniston, Fort Payne and Gadsden
21 in Cullman
23 at Birmingham Airport
22 in Tuscaloosa
24 at Shelby County Airport
29 atop Mt. Cheaha (Alabama's highest elevation at 2407 feet)

It is interesting to note that Mt. Cheaha is 11 degrees "warmer" than Anniston Airport which is within sight. It is the old temperature inversion that we talk about so much.

I think all the cold air in the state must have drained into Black Creek last night. I'm usually about one degree warmer than Fort Payne, but this morning I'm sitting on 14.4° and still falling.

I'm ready for the warm up. If we can't have snow for Christmas it might as well be 60 so the kids can play outside

I have noticed that the old inversion works well in Clay. My elevation is 1032, and I live at the top of a small hill. The cold air drains into the valley. Low this morning was 27.6F at 6:20am.

Jason, it dropped below freezing just after sunset and fell like a rock. It was down to 25.7° at 7:17pm, 23.2° at 8:57pm, 21° at midnight and 14.9° when I awoke at 4:19am. It would have been below freezing from about 5pm - 9am (16 hours).
