These supercell storms about to move into west Alabama are showing very strong evidence of rotation with confirmed damage in Mississippi. One is headed toward Pickens County, the other towards Sumter County.

I only hope folks over there are awake, or have a NOAA Weather Radio alarm or E-Warn to wake them up. About to go into wall to wall coverage...

I have one of the newer weather radios with the SAME warning system. It worked great last night. I have a problem with E-warn and cingular. When warnings were issued for Bibb County yeaterday evening I did not get the messages till the warning was over. Also due to the limited text capacity I dont get the whole message. This problem is with cingular and not Ewarn. At .10 a message I unsubscribed for this event

One thing I wish I could do with my weather radio is edit the alerts I receive. I live around 680 feet above the cahaba river, so all the flash flood warnings that came in last night did nothing but interrupt my (and my girlfriend's) sleep. I have the SAME technology, so my alert only goes off for Jefferson and Shelby Counties, but I wish I could limit it to Tornado and Severe T-Storm watches and warnings. (Like E-Warn USED to be)...

So, I guess I must clairify. I am very sensitive to the damage to lives and property that is done each time we experience severe weather. I am sure we will soon hear people saying "I never knew it was coming". My thoughts are that if the weather radio didn't go off so much (6 times for 1 flash flood warning at 3 this morning) people would embrace the technology more, and not ignore the radios as "crying wolf".
