Winter Storm Update - 3:30 PM

The NWS in Birmingham has issued a "snow advisory" for the following counties in their CWA (county warning area):

MARION, LAMAR, WINSTON, FAYETTE, WALKER, BLOUNT, ETOWAH AND CHEROKEE...FROM 3 AM TO 8 AM.

Some light accumulation is possible in these counties late tonight as the rain begins to change to snow. The greatest accumulation will remain to the north, over the Tennessee Valley of far North Alabama.

Memphis is now reporting heavy snow... and a heavy snow warning is in effect for the Memphis metro area and northwest Mississippi, where 3 to 5 inches is likely.

More to follow...

Doubt it! Our friends at TWC have been saying NO snow at all for central Alabama and now JB says NO snow at all tonight and MAY BE a FEW snow showers tomorrow Looks like the "non Weather Channel" was right again. I'll bet you a hundred conferedrate dollars no one south of Cullman will even see a miserable flake. No offense to anyone but WE are the flakes for thinking it was going to snow here( and I do include myself in that group)

Whatever may fall... I hope everyone is safe, warm and dry. I saw the warnings for the East Coast and I think they will get hammered by this system. Blizzard warnings are out for Brooklyn. Luckily, they are accustom to this sorta weather and are better prepared for heavy snow than we are down south.

I've missed the last few comments on the threads but it appears the Low will track more north than once forecasted, bringing us rain and slightly warmer temps. Is that still the case?

OK, I havent looked at one single weather map today, because in all honesty, I don't know what I a looking at. But here's my guess - and that is all it is - a guess.
Birmingham and points south will see cold rain, turning to snow, then before we all wake up tomorrow (except those of you who will be awake all night...JB!!!) the rain will be back and will have melted all the snow.
Im not a meteorologist, nor do I play one on TV, nor did I stay in a Holiday Inn last night.
But I am qualified to guess..... I guess.

I dont know who called me "corny" yesterday, but Im probably one of the oldest visitor to this blog, so I am allowed to be corny.

Woohoo!!!! They said Etowah!! That's only one county away from me!! I could hopefully at least drive to see some snow!! Ha Ha!!

Go ahead and be as corny as you like, Dave. The world would be quite dull without corny people. I'm corny in training.

Hello everyone...I read this blog everyday. I don't write much as I am one of the shy readers...lol.. It's raining here in Tuscaloosa and it's cold! I hope that you all are safe, and no matter what, stay warm. I have a good book, my blanket and my favorite pillow. Life is GOOD!

Welcome Jan,
Don't be shy here, we are all just kinda crazy people who talk about the weather and/or anything else that crosses our minds when the weather is not interesting.

Thanks gold...I enjoy reading all your thoughts daily. Just remember to say Hi to "Jan the shy one" every now and again. :-) I love weather and I am watching it close these days. Building a house and the wet weather really keeps things interesting.

ITS MOving South.... Does anyone remember my predicition yesterday that somewhere between a line from Jasper to Oneonta To Gadsden, there would be a 5-7 inch accumulation... It still may happen.... But this morning , nothing for us ... maybe a little across the Tennessee Valley, now we have Blount cullman and other central counties under advisories.... Lets see how this is goign to play out.... Are we having fun yet or what???

well as we all know anything can happen and it sure has been a very long time since we have had any snow around these parts. and I sure think that it is about time and if not this time we still have a few more chances like this weather maker to come!! Maybe we will get a dusting for the little kids to see and ofcourse all the big ones as well..

From here in Etowah County, one of those counties under a Snow Advisory, I'll believe it when I see it.
