4 p.m. Notes

Some icing expected across area tonight...

Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for tonight for the following counties...
Fayette, Lamar, Marion, Walker, Winston, Bibb, Clay, Jefferson, Pickens, Randolph, Shelby, Talladega, Tuscaloosa until midnight.

The NWS Huntsville maintains their Winter Weather Advisory for their counties in North Alabama until 6 p.m.

Precipitation is tapering over North Alabama this afternoon, but some light precipitation will continue across the area this evening. As temperatures fall to near or below freezing, icing could occur, especially on bridges and overpasses north of a line from Aliceville to Pelham to Wedowee.

Use extreme caution if you are driving tonight. Bridges and overpasses could be especially dangerous.

Sunday will be mostly cloudy, although there will be some sunshine. There could be a little patchy drizzle. Temperatures will edge into the lower 40s. More precipitation will move across the area starting late tomorrow night. It could fall as freezing rain over northern sections of the area, generally north of US-278.

Winter weather advisory for Jefferson county? The radar looks okay. I just gave my son and a friend permission to go to the mall. Do I need to call them back home?

Is the thinking that after dark the temperature will drop to freezing or below and with the available moisture streaming in from the west will create some driving issues?

Uh, my back porch and steps are so slippery now you can't stand up, and a steady freezing rain is falling. Radar indiccates it will last a while. I'm at Black Creek, NE Etowah County.

Putting Jeff and Tusc county in the Winter Weather Advisory is probably a bit ridiculous... A Special Weather Statement would suffice.

Still, there are no doubt a few wet spots on the roads and these may freeze after sunset (temps WILL get cold enough, even in Bham).

However, have you seen the radar back in MS? If you live ANYWHERE north of Bham, I'd be careful! Looks like you might have another round of wintry precip to go through. Yikes!

Well I think it might be over done a bit because I don't see that much rain to our west. Now with what is on the ground we need to watch out for black ice because temperatures will fall just below 32.

May I assume my spouse's mid-day Sunday commute back up from Mobile should be a safe one?

Oh here we go. Everyone go into a panic now. It would not be the same in good ole birmingham if everyone did not begin to panic. Watch out for the grocery store and the bread and milk being sold out

I agree that a Special Weather Statement would have sufficed for most of the area, except maybe extreme northern counties of the state.

Give people credit for having SOME sense, although from reading some of the posts here, some people believe that predicting the weather is an exact science, especially wintry precipitation.

Driving from Mobile to B'ham tomorrow should be fine as temps should reach the low 40's tomorrow. However...having a "safe" trip also means dealing with bad drivers, which weather people cannot predict.

Your last paragraph was a good point, Mikey, and thanks for your reply. I posted my question for two reasons: (1) Although I was pretty confident the roads would be fine, I just thought I'd ask in case I missed something. (2) Bill or someone deleted a goofy post I made in the prior thread. It was just a silly post (not a flame), but it needed deletion. So, I was just checking to see if I was banned as well. Apparently not. Cool!

Stay warm,

Andy

A winter wx advisory is just that . Its means use your common since , drive carefully , there might be a slick spots . NOTHING to get carried away about , or cancell your plans over . I have 36* at my house in Hueytown . Just like Jerry said , NO need to press the Oh heck , its panic time button . HOWEVER , YES ! Watch out for the other idiots , & they will be out there as usual , around you .

Truly... yesterday's weather was less hazardous, but I had to suffer through a root canal. Thus, today is cake in all respects. It's a perspective thing. ;)
