Lots of Damage

James....I have a friend that lives on Logan Martin Lake in Saint Clair Shores. He works for Alltel communications and is trained in Storm evaluation...he watched a rotating wall cloud take out a tree in his yard and several in his neighbors', plus several feet of fence.

Good grief . . . and nobody thought this was going to be a big tornado event. I guess you never really know.

Some of my family lives on the Coldwater Pump Road. They had no power or phone earlier and left to go to Hardees on 202. When they got to the intersection of the Pump Road and 202, they saw that a friend's house was completely demolished. As they rode up 202 towards Anniston, they noticed a lot of building damage. They were then turned around by troopers/police and could go no further up 202. They said that they heard someone died up there and also someone in Bynum was killed. I also heard that there is a tree down on Greenbier road in Anniston. Power outages on Quintard. The big Yellow and Black Nextel Elephant has been blown over.

I just came back from autaugaville and I saw three houses just before you got into town that were destroyed. Powerlines snapped at their base and trees flattened or snapped at their base. Also, a large transformer about fifty feet tall was reduced to a bent a twisted mass on the ground. The tornado path appeared to be about 100-150 yards wide and seemed to have lifted not long after it crossed highway 14. I watched the storm approach and due to the hill I could not see the wall cloud but it was a rain free base for sure and extemely black and low as it passed to my north. We had stong winds not long after that. There may have been more houses but I could only get to so many places. Although, several subdivisions of poor construction were missed which may have saved many lives.
