Late Morning Update--11:20 Report

QUICK SHORT NOTES

* Showers increasing over NW Alabama. Moderate rain now in Lamar, Marion, Franklin and Moulton Counties.

* Some light showers developing in the greater Birmingham area.

* No lightning indicated in Alabama as of 11:20.

* Entire state continues under a slight risk of severe weather according to the Storm Prediction Center.

* Probably the better chance of severe in Alabama will be over the SW and south, but we cannot let our guard down over the north.

* Atmosphere still stable over the north two-thirds of Alabama. Dew points in the upper 40s in the Tuscaloosa-Birmingham area and even in the upper 30s over NE Alabama. Richer moisture has spread inland over Florida and coastal Alabama. A dew point of 61 in Mobile and some dew points close to 70 over South Louisiana.

* Stronger thunderstorms now over South-Central Mississippi south of the Jackson area moving toward the NE. Lightning indicated in those.

* A wide area of moderate to heavy rain over the rest of Central Mississippi as far north as Greenwood and Oxford.

* Strongest thunderstorms of all were across Central Louisiana producing very heavy rain and lots of lightning.

* Tornado Watch continues for a good part of Central Louisiana and most of the southern third of Mississippi until 5:00pm.

* That southern third of Mississippi also under a moderate risk.

* Last severe Thunderstorm Warning was just before 11:00am in SW Louisiana.

* No Tornado Warnings since around daybreak and those were issued by the Houston-Galveston office.

Anybody catch the new Discovery Channel series "Perfect Disaster" last night? The first one was about a "super tornado" that could possibly strike one day. This was a "doccumentary" of what could happen if all the right circumstances occur in the Dallas, Texas area. It was basically a strng F5 or even an F6 with with winds of like 35o+ mph. It totally destroyed downtown Dallas. Is there actually such a thing as a "super tornado" like they portrayed, and could it happen here? Just curious...
