The Ten Lowest

Just went for another walk on our community walking track and the weather is perfection. Here are the ten coolest temperatures I could find around the Alabama countryside this morning:

39 in DeSoto State Park
41 in Hamilton and at Cullman Airport (Vinemont)
42 in Crossville
43 in Gaylesville
45 in Addison and Heflin
46 in Muscle Shoals, Decatur, Ft. Payne, Meridianville, Jasper, Wedowee
47 in Pinson, Huntsville, Albertville, Ashville
48 in Blue Pond (Cherokee County)
50 at Birmingham Airport
52 at Anniston Airport

USA EXTREMES
The coldest in the lower 48 states this morning was 25 at Limon, Colorado.
The hottest Sunday was 114 in Death Valley.

A WORLD EXTREME
...and this final note, which you probably don't care about, the projected low for Vostok, Antarctica tomorrow night is 106 below zero with sustained winds of 15 mph. This means the wind chill will be a bitter 174 below zero. Will need at least a light coat and to have socks on.

Im getting a little tired of these cool temps. I am ready to shelve all my cool weather riding gear and just be able to wear short sleeves and ride. However, of course, I do not prefer a heat index of 110 like we had last year on a ride to Eufaula - whew - that was tough. Anyway... the board looked kinda slow, so thought I would just chime in with my motorcycle weather related talk.

HEY JB???? Any plans on taking Miss Molly to DoDahDay??????

JB: You may have answered this question before but does anyone live in Vostok? How could anyone live in conditions like that? Seems like you would freeze to death just walking outside.

J.B., I love these cool temperatures, so pay no attention to those folks requesting hot weather and leave the weather as is. There are too many hot, hot days ahead for them.

Mike...
There is someone at Vostok all year but it is not populated in the usual sense of the word. It is a Russian Research Station, only weather people and scientists.

By the way, Vostok registered an all-time low of 128.6 below zero on July 21, 1983. Yes, July, mid-summer for them.

There are more and more tourists making trips to Antarctica in the "warmer" time of year when there is daylight.

J.B., thanks for the belly-shaking giggle I got from your mishap on the walking track. Rumor has it that you will be the next star of America's Funniest Videos.
