My son, Steve, a Birmingham fireman was teaching at fire-school at the Fairgrounds when fire broke out. He is now on scene at the fire and will probably relieve the fireman on the ladder truck bucket manning the water cannon shortly. I worry about hime sometimes.
I wondered if he was working today JB, and if you would update us about him. Don't worry, Im sure he is trained very well and will be fine.
I guess when todays forecast package was titled "The Heat Cranks Up a Notch", the fireman had no idea that James was talking about a major structure fire.
I've been watching them fight the fire from the Interstate cameras, but I must say the Compass camera could not have been in a better spot. Some really nice shots from that angle.
Thanks, Dave. As of 2:45 pm, it is all white smoke so I am sure they are all OK. Steve is assigned to Station One downtown...he has been with BFD and CPFD nearly 20 years. He announced from his crib when he was only a day or so old that he wanted to be a fireman and nothing else. His interest in weather was -2 and I certainly did not push it.
That is SOOOO COOL! I love the trucks, lights, horn, sirens, uniforms, EVERYTHING!!!! If am not going to me a met them I will be a Firefighter or State Trooper! If I become a firefighter then I want to work at Station 5 Center Point fire/rescue!!!! If I become a cop then I want to work in Virginia or Kansas.
That sounds like perhaps a large structure totally involved. I'll be praying for his and others safety, J. B. I'm a volunteer firefighter at Black Creek.
