Rapidly Developing Severe Weather

Thunderstorms intensifying rapidly over East Central Mississippi.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning for West Alabama's Pickens County until 7:45.

New Tornado Watch (Number 72) now in effect for a big chuck of Alabama until 2 am CST. Here are the counties:

AUTAUGA BIBB BLOUNT
BUTLER CHILTON CHOCTAW
CLARKE CONECUH COOSA
CULLMAN DALLAS ELMORE
ESCAMBIA FAYETTE GREENE
HALE JEFFERSON LAMAR
LAWRENCE LOWNDES MARENGO
MARION MONROE MONTGOMERY
MORGAN PERRY PICKENS
SHELBY ST. CLAIR SUMTER
TALLADEGA TUSCALOOSA WALKER
WASHINGTON WILCOX WINSTON

A number of Severe Thunderstorm Warnings and one Tornado Warning in effect now for a cluster of counties in East Central Mississippi.

Thanks James for the additional information. I have been monitoring those storms right across the state line for the past few hours and they seem to be intensifying so I would not be the least bit suprised if a tornado watch were issued for my neck of the woods. Keep us updated and everyone be safe.

Maybe these will fall apart over Central sections of the state due to the cooler air that remained in place. Let's hope this is the case. A nighttime tornado in AL, not a fun sight.

Oh, but that's just it; you don't see it, but. . .that's what these guys are for! Yes, I'm curious to see whether or not this will hold up into Central AL or not as well. It all seems to be holding together quite well so far. . .

Hopefully we are looking at hail, rain and lightening cells, not tornadic ones. Don't see any rotating ones but if NWS is putting up a tornado over a severe thunderstorm watch something is up or they are being careful which is ok.

Hmmmm. J.B. here we go again. Temp at my house is 62 with a dewpoint at 58. Think Jefferson co, will get it's first tornado warnings in 13 months. Hmm. What size hail did you get this morning. All I got was heavy rain.

So, this whole situation has been pushed forward from 10:00pm to 02:00am, right? What kind of instability factor do we have currently, from this afternoon's heating? Thanks...

Stephen, WHen the sun poked out it made the air very unstable. The reason the watch was issued was because of the chance of those storms could fire up, which they did. THe situation will be push past 10 P.m. IF you have a Weather Radio, I advise you to keep it on.

Thanks, Justin. I've got a small Midland on me, right now; but probably won't need it for another hour or so. And that's all depending on whether any of this hits the Jeff-Shelby area...
Just out of curiosity, who puts out data on CAPE? I noticed JS listed data for CAPE and Index, earlier.
