Thanks , J.B. Things here in Northport are settling down, a little windy and some light rain. On radar, it looks like another strom in behind this one so Ill post when I see something.

Thought I'd repost this from the previous thread since people here are asking about Tuscaloosa/Northport...

I was able to get a great view of the rotating part of the storm as it passed over Northeast Tuscaloosa (about 1/2mile sw Verner ES/Northridge HS). There was virtually no precip, which allowed for a perfect view (for a night storm) & weak but definite rotation as the storm passed over. Did no see any violent cloud motion or a funnel, though there wer a couple of instances where faiirly suspicious looking scud material approached & passed by. The main area of rotation seemed to pass directly over the house (though the rotation covered a large area). Got really windy for a second with low hanging clouds moving eastward & slightly upward fairly rapidly.

It just seemed so chilly outside I couldn't imagine the storm being able to maintain the intensity it had as it approached, so I felt pretty safe, especially given that I knew what to look for & the nice cloud illumination from the city lights.

Nothing extraordinary, but thought I'd pass along what I saw. Was very cool to see the sky completely clear past the tail edge of the cloud...had to do a double take when I saw a sky full of stars deveolping to my west & the dying edge of a rotating storm overhead. Hope all have a safe night. Looks like our we were able to miss the worst threat.

Yes, David I actually drove through the leading edge of the storm and had tremendous lightning but after the initial arrival there was little lightening, wind, or anything here. The air was motionless and exremely quiet when the rotating part of the storm moved through. Afterward, we had pea-dime sized hail and heavy rain. Now though, things have calmed down tremendously.

Yes, I was on the way home from an errand driving through the leadin edge and saw the lightening display and then posted when I returned home.

I know what you mean, David. Living in Hillcrest in 2000, I got a close up (first time I'd every seen a live tornado (other than a waterspout off the Gulf Coast)). It was an F4 at the time I watched it go by, but I can't imagine the April 8th F5. I saw the damage about a month after that one...just concrete steps to nowhere, driveways and foundations. Completely unimagineable to me. An old girlfriend's family lived in Edgewater at the time, though I've lost touch w/her to know their situation. Almost scared to look at the list of deaths in that community.

Hope all have a good (and quiet) night.

Well, it depends on where you are. For the most part, western central is clear for the time being but a Tornado Watch remains in effect until 2 in the morning.
