Thoughts On The Weekend

Boy, this has been one of those days when I had a hard time finding time to gather my thoughts. And this is supposed to be spring break!

Been looking at the 18Z model data...

I still think we might be setting up for two potential rounds of severe storms this weekend. The first coming in the 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. time frame (Saturday night/early Sunday morning), and the second in the 3:00 p.m. to midnight time frame (Sunday evening and Sunday night).

Not sure if the atmosphere can re-charge for that second wave, but it is not out of the question.

This evening severe storms are blowing up over Oklahoma... and a watch box was just issued.

We will have to keep an eye on those... some of them might try to slide this way tomorrow along a weak front that should become stationary across the Tennessee Valley....

I am at work on the Friday morning forecast package; I will have it posted over on the seven day discussion and forecast page by 10:00 tonight.

Thanks for the update James. Do you have a time frame yet about the time those storms, supposing they held together, would reach central Alabama tomorrow? Thanks again and look forward to more updates.

Chase, It's still a little far out to give full details. Look's like we have to keep to Easter egg hunt inside, this year. Maybe You could squeeze them in in the morning. Keep an eye for my blog updates.

Hey i was wondering if these storms will be as severe here as in south alabama. On Noaa.com they have the severe weather risk for day 3 over mostly south alabama. I know things can change though from day to day. I hate this time of year severe weather is scary! I will be glad when our weather moderates.

James, I have a question. Why is it that most of our tornado weather happens after nightfall here in the southeast while in the plains their tornadoes appear to happen more in the daytime? It just seems to me that alot of tornado chasers get such good footage of those tornadoes while so many of ours happen at night and we don't get very many caught on tape. Thanks so much for taking time to answer our questions. :)
