Summertime Returning

The Saturday map discussion video is on the server at:

I feel somewhat like a broken record since the weather pattern has not changed much since the last web video map discussion I did. The trough that brought us an fairly unusual July cold front has moved slightly eastward and is beginning to weaken losing it's influence on our weather. The result is that we'll see the humidity return along with increased temperatures and those pesky mainly afternoon showers and storms.

The upper air pattern remains somewhat busy for the next couple of days and then settles down as we return to a weak flow pattern across the southern tier of the US with the main storm track well north of Alabama. This translates into warmer afternoon highs, increased humidity, and the presence of scattered showers. I expect any showers today and Sunday to be south of the Birmingham area and to be very isolated with little areal coverage. Areal coverage will increase a little as see a few more showers - more a scattered pattern - but still most of us will remain dry. By the mid-week and latter part of the week we could see an additional increase in shower coverage but still chances for rain at any one spot will be small.

Temperatures return to the mid 90s, so be aware of the heat. Heat and cold are actually two very big killers, so take it easy if you are working outside in the heat. Take frequent breaks, get out of the sun when you can, and drink lots of water.

Even in the long range, there does not appear to be much change in the weather scenario, so we're settling into the typrical summer weather.

Got a big outing today as I head up to Hamilton at the invitation of Matt McCracken, EMA Director for Marion County. Going to be at the Wal-Mart in Hamilton to promote severe weather safety. If you are in the area, be sure to stop by and say hello. I'd love to see you.

The future I-22 makes the drive to Hamilton very pleasant, but it still takes nearly two hours, so I better hit the road. I hope you have a great Saturday. God Bless!!
