The Tuesday afternoon map discussion video is on the web, and available on iTunes:

DOG DAYS OF SUMMER: Hot, hazy, and humid. That pretty much sums it up for the next five days. There is ALWAYS some risk of an afternoon shower or storm around here this time of the year, but they will probably be rather scarce in coming days as an upper ridge builds over us.
Daily high temperatures will peak in the 92 to 96 degree range in most spots, and the chance of any one place getting wet is only about one in five this evening and tomorrow afternoon. Odds might be a little better by the end of the week and the weekend, but with a 5940 meter 500 mb height overhead, I sure wouldn't expect much rain.
There could be an increase in the number of afternoon showers and storms late this weekend and early next week as the main heat ridge shifts to the west, and temperatures aloft cool somewhat.
TROPICS: An interesting blow-up of convection today over the Bahamas; surface pressures seem to be falling a tad in that region and we will keep an eye on it. Whatever forms in the area should drift to the west, in the direction of the Florida peninsula. Our wave over the Atlantic, about 600 miles east of the Windward Islands, continues to look very unhealthy.
INTERNET NEWS: Mozilla released the new version 2.0 of the Firefox browser today:
http://news.com.com/First+Firefox+2+beta+makes+debut/2100-1032_3-6092770.html?tag=nefd.top
Be aware it is beta software; but I plan on giving it a whirl this evening. I have been a long time Firefox user, and I encourage everyone to give it a shot. Secure, fast, tabbed browsing, cool extensions, and more. I also note today it was announced Firefox is now is up to a 16 percent market share in the U.S... while Internet Explorer use continues to drop.
I will have the next map discussion video posted by 7:00 a.m. tomorrow!
