Nasty storms

The stroms over Central Alabama are producing some nasty wind gusts this afternoon.

Winds just gusted to 55 mph at the Birmingham Airport.

I have been observing sustained winds of 35-40 mph from time to time in Trussville, with gusts over 40.

Winds have blown over awnings at the Barber Motorsports Park where an event is being held.

There are numerous reports of trees down over Walker, Winston and northern Jefferson Counties.

The acitivity is moving into St. Clair County. A severe thunderstorm warning has just been issued for St. Clair County. Significant weather alerts are in effect all along the rest of the line as it moves east and southeastward.

Take cover as these dangerous storms approach your area. Minor wind damage is possible, along with torrential rains. Very heavy rain my location now in Trussville. One hour rainfall rates are around 1 inch with the line, with some localized higher amounts.
