Lots of big thunderstorms across Alabama this afternoon, but as the afternoon heating has abated, they are slowly coming under control.
At 6 PM, a long broken and uneven line of strong thunderstorms extended all the way across Central Alabama roughly from Livingston to Clanton, Rockford, Ashland and Heflin.
Scattered strong thunderstorms were in progress will south of the main line ocer South Central and Southeast Alabama.
Some of the strongest storms were:
+ Along the Bibb-Perry County line
+ Central and North Chilton County
+ Western Clay County into Cleburne
All the thunderstorms moving toward the south and southeast.
TUSCALOOSA-BIRMINGHAM-ANNISTON-GADSDEN AREAS
The strongest storms now well south of those cities. However, a steady rain and some thunder lingers behind across places like Jefferson and Cullman County.
Tornado Warning posted for Talladega County late this afternoon by NWS, Birmingham. No confirmed report of it touching down. A significant tornado in mid-summer in Alabama is extremely rare.
Scattered straight line wind damage over several counties. No major damage.
50 MPH seemed to be the wind gust of choice this afternoon.
We will post some rainfall amounts after the reports are complete after 7 PM.

-From the 1600 Block of Rex Lake Road - 3.5 miles from the entrance to Barbers
I was on Grants Mill Road near I-459 when the outflow hit....very impressive wind.
