Anyone Watching The Sky?

Just received this note from a viewer... anyone else see it?

Mr. Spann,

I wanted to see if you have had any other reports of an unusual light in
the Southern sky earlier this evening. We saw a light moving across that
kept getting bigger and seemingly brighter, and then it seemed to move
away and get smaller. This was not a plane. We saw the space station a
time or two back when it came close and this did not seem to be the same
as that either. Have you had anyone else ask about this? Do you know
what it might have been?

Thanks,
R. Wood

Could have been a satellite, rocket body, or other space junk floating up there...early evening is the best time to see those things, as their orbits have yet to fall into the earth's shadow..

www.heavens-above.com is a great site to see when when orbiting objects are visible from your location.

heavens-above is a great site. I used it to find the space station, when it was docked with the shuttle this past summer, and see when the closet flyover would be. The thing seemed to come right over my house, and it was great to see the station for the first time (with me actually knowing what it was) and in that fashion.
