Beginning of a Long Night

A new long Tornado Watch has been issued that goes all the way from the NE corner of Texas eastward to the Alabama border. The watch, which is in effect until 11 pm, CDT, covers:

Several counties in Extreme NE Texas
Extreme Northern Louisiana
Southern Arkansas
North Mississippi (nearly the north half)

It is interesting that not a single thunderstorm was in progress in the whole watch area at 4 PM. In fact, only a few light showers near Shreveport and in NE Texas. But that will change for sure.

Also, not a single shower in Alabama at 4 pm

Still on track for most of the rough stuff in Alabama to be very late tonight into Saturday morning.

Little or no sleep for the weather people for a long time...

Life goes on...sleep or no sleep.

I hate to say J.B., but I'm not surprised there are no storms in the watch area. When the SPC issues a watch, sometimes there are already bad storms in the area or none at all.

We will all be watching and listening (to you)...

Best of luck tonight. May your storms be weak and your coffee strong.

Word is getting out at Talladega Superspeedway about the impending weather. The EMA and word of mouth seems to be doing its job. Still leary of the fact that 75000 people cant all take shelter in one spot, just in case.

I noticed 2 bands of storms developing over Texas and Louisiana. I also noted that the statement on the tornado watch that covers parts Mississippi, Louisiana, and Arkansas said that hail could reach 3 inches in diameter in the advised area. I will be going to the Relay for Life in Jasper where I will be playing in the Walker High School band tonight. If am hopping the weather will hold off for this and many other events tonight like the race at Talladega.
