A Nice Day In May

I will be posting my version of "Spann's Best Way To The Bama Beaches" later today or this evening... time to get out the road maps and head south!

The last stop of the 2004-2005 school year for me was earlier today at South Shades Crest Elementary... the 3rd graders were great. I teach most of them every Sunday in Children's Worship at Hunter Street... so we are old pals anyway.

Another nice day ahead tomorrow, although afternoon temperatures will rise into the mid 80s.

I still think most of the day Thursday will be dry, but a few scattered showers or storms could show up late in the day or Thursday night. The GFS has backed off a bit on the strength of the upper system to the west of Alabama later in the week, and also shows a more shallow moisture field. Still, we will need to mention at least a good chance of a few passing showers or storms on Friday, and scattered showers on Saturday. The upper system will be moving southward from Des Moines on Thursday into the northern Gulf of Mexico on Saturday; the unusual southward motion is due to a big blocking upper low over eastern Canada. The latest QPF guidance shows about 1 inch for this part of Alabama in the Friday-Saturday time frame.

Don't think we will have a wash-out for the Bruno's Memorial Classic, but they will be dodging a few showers on Friday and Saturday; maybe a thunderstorm as well.

We will continue to leave Sunday dry for now as the moisture will be west of the state at that time.

THE LONG RANGE: Looks like a cold front passes through Monday night or early Tuesday of next week, followed by another shot of cooler and drier air in the May 24-26 time frame. That might get the cooler spots into the upper 40s again.
