Damage in Jackson, TN

Major damage in Madison County in Tennessee.

This is where Jackson is located.

From the NWS…

Jackson [Madison Co, TN] emergency mngr reports TORNADO at 07:15 PM CST — people trapped in water commons building at union university…overturned vehicles between mile marker 68 and 76…damage in the vincinity of mile marker 79 and hwy 412…damage at the regional hospital at channing way drive…damage at northside high school and in the oak hill area.

Jackson was struck by two major tornadoes on January 17, 1999 that killed six people. On May 4, 2003, an F4 tornado killed 11 in the Jackson area. The downtown area was heavily damaged.

    Probably one of the worst severe weather nights in some time and I cant find any coverage on any broadcast or cable channel (other than the weather channel that I no longer watch)Hey guys at 33-40 dump the election coverage on the secondary digital channel and go back to weather, what a waste of bandwidth.

    i am from jackson and now live in bham. It is amazing how many times one city can be hit by a tornado.

    Praying for those guys in Jackson TN. Hope the main squall line that is in AR now is all we deal with and no rouge supercells. Did see the 3340 storm chaser guys at a local eatery in Hamilton waiting about 7. Maybe they will be really bored in Marion County tonight listening to some of James B. from stratus stations fishing lies… Worked EMS with James B., good guy.

    My sister called from Jackson. She lives near Mckellar field airport. They were in the basement and their house got hit hit in the last hour. Everyone is ok

    I agree Jason..Jackson has been hit one too many times by tornadoes. I live in Nashville and i believe that same storm is headed this way because its getting really bad out there. I will continue to pray for those girls that are trapped and my family, especially my parents in Jackson. Umm..so what kinda damage was in the vicinity of exit 79 and hwy 412?? Thats near my house.

    I talked to a girl in middleton, everything is ok. I also received a phone call from a friend, she said that Union University is completely gone. Does anyone know if that is true?

    my family lives in jackson. amanda, union is not gone, just badly damaged and there are still some folks trapped in the dorms.

    I talked to my mother that lives in jackson right down from highland and they said that the trees and lines are down and i think that is where jackson oaks is

    says jackson oaks nursing was hit but no injuries reported. residents have been taken to carl perkins civic center. Prayers for your grandmother. Attempting to locate family. prayers to you and yours.

    I am in florida and my sister and her family is in Jackson,TN, in the Springbrook area. I am very worried and I am trying to keep up with what is going on. Can anyone tell me what is a good website to go to in that area and what county is that in?

    Brandi, I wasn’t able to find a radio connection online that had updates on the area. It is Madison County, TN. I wish I could help more, maybe someone else can though.

    The homes near Jackson Oaks were hit pretty hard as well. My parent’s home only had some roof damage but they are telling me the windows were blown out of most of the houses on their street. They walked up to University Blvd. and there was so much debris, vehicles couldn’t get through.
